About UsHBS Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 2008 and is based at the tennis centre at Hitchin Boys School. The centre itself was jointly funded by Hitchin Boys School, Sport England, and the National Lottery. Floodlights were installed with generous support from the LTA.
We are fully inclusive, with a strong emphasis on junior coaching. There are also ample opportunities for adult social and competitive (Datchworth, Hot Rackets, Orchard League) tennis. We are very proud to have achieved
Tennis Clubmark accreditation in only our second full year of operation, and aim to deliver a full coaching, tournament and match play programme across all age ranges.
Club ManagementThe club is managed by a two-tier management structure, designed to take into account the interests of the three parties involved:
- HBS Sports Centre Manager: retains all membership fees, and is responsible for facilities management, capital expenditure and court maintenance.
- Director of Tennis: appointed by HBS Sports Centre Manager, and is responsible for design and delivery of the full coaching programme. Also provides certain membership services (applications, marketing) on behalf of the club.
- Club Membership: represented by elected committee of volunteers, who are responsible for coordination of all (non-coached) club sessions, social events, and competitive teams. Officers are elected for 12 month terms. The current officers were elected on 2 Dec 2011 and will stand until 31 March 2013.
